Style Notes: This Week In Outfits #1
The highs and lows of a week in outfits. Reviewing what works in my wardrobe.
Welcome to my new series of Style Notes. I’m sharing with you the introspection behind a week of casual everyday outfits. There’ll be some good outfits and some bad I’m sure. Let’s discuss the nitty gritty of trying to improve everyday outfits and hone into an authentic style while repeating and reimagining our existing clothes.
SUNDAY
If I had to picture my dream style, I would say it’s undeniably playful through colour and texture. I think of light-hearted styling, mixing and matching pieces that simultaneously work together and contradict.
This outfit reminds me of countless looks I’ve saved on Pinterest. So much of my style is cultivated by what inspires me and bringing it to life in a way that feels realistic and authentic to my casual lifestyle, my wardrobe, my body type …

MONDAY
I headed into the city and on a slightly gloomy day, wanted to use colour to lift up my mood. The truth is with the weather mild and slightly humid, I barely needed the knit let alone the coat. This olive green + dark red combination is one I come back to repeatedly so I’m saving this full outfit for later in the season as the weather cools down in Sydney.
TUESDAY

On Tuesday I headed to the library for some undistracted time with my laptop. I wanted practical but to feel like the best version of myself to inspire good work.
I needed to get ready fast. So I took my favourite outfit from last week and switched out one piece. This formula of repeating, and just switching out one piece saves me time and time again.
My favourite thing about this look? The contrast between the simplicity of the lightweight tote and the boldness of the loafer.
WEDNESDAY

A realistic look at what I actually wear. On the left, we have a typical work from home look. Polished on top, pj pants on the bottom.
The middle image where I style the outfit with a red bag is technically perfectly fine. But it sparks no joy. The colour palette is classic and slightly nautical or preppy which are not my style words. But just by switching the red for green, everything fell into place. It’s playful, it’s fresh, it’s giving me a new colour combo that I don’t always wear, creating the feeling of ‘new’ with existing clothes.
I’m inspired right now by the subtleties of good style. It shows styling prowess when we take clothing we own and love, and create a fresh new look as opposed to buying new pieces all the time.
THURSDAY
My most worn outfit … ever. I’ve been seeing a lot of bracelet stacks incorporating beads, chains and cords. With this in mind, I created a little necklace stack to freshen up this navy set I’m constantly repeating.
FRIDAY

Starting off the 4 day weekend with a 3 hour hike. I spend most weekends either on a hike or a long walk of some sort. These are days where I can struggle to decide what to wear. Ultimately it’s practicality above all else. Sneakers and a hat are non negotiables. The swiftly long sleeve from Lululemon is one of my most reached for clothing items for runs, workouts and hikes.
SUNDAY
Skipping to Sunday as I barely got dressed on Saturday.
My outfit challenge for Sunday was that I needed something that would look cute for a chill day in the city AND be comfortable enough for me to walk into the city (6kms or 3.7 miles). It was also a very hot humid day so light breathable fabrics were key.
The necklace was the key statement in an outfit of basic pieces. I have been pinning a lot of beaded or corded bracelets and necklaces. They are the perfect piece to bring colour and texture all in one.
